Carol Burnett to Host ‘SNL’
Lorne Michaels, you’ve got no one to blame for this but yourself. You invite Betty White to host “Saturday Night Live” after hundreds of thousands of Facebook fans clamor for it — yielding a memorable show and strong ratings in the process — and you open the door for copycat campaigns to put other stars of a certain age onto your show. Already off and running is a Facebook page called “Carol Burnett to Host SNL (Please?)!” that is closely modeled on the site that helped Ms. White land a hosting spot on “SNL.” Its creator (who posted an image with Ms. Burnett and the “SNL” logo, above) writes that Ms. Burnett, the sketch comedian, Broadway star and author, “would be an outstanding choice to host ‘SNL,’ ” adding, “Icing on the cake would be a cameo appearance by Tim Conway!” As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 32,000 like-minded fans had signed on in agreement. But there’s not much influence they can exert right now: the “SNL” season finale, hosted by Alec Baldwin, is Saturday.
