Golf Star Tiger Woods is not invincible, he's even more awe inspiring

Phil Mickelson holed a 205-yard 5-iron for eagle on the first hole and still shot 76.
Padraig Harrington came close enough to the trophy to fog it up with his breath until he barfed up an 8. Again

Yep, you read that right. Woods lost a two-shot lead at the 91st PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club to a 37-year-old South Korean named Y.E. Yang, who shot a two-under-par 70 to Tiger's ragged 75.

And here's the funny thing: It's the best possible thing that could have happened to Woods.
We now appreciate all the more the 14 major championship victories, the 70 PGA Tour wins. You know how hard it is to win one major, let alone 14? You do now, courtesy of Tiger's lost weekend, which included 33 putts Sunday.

Tiger Woods smart

Tom Watson was asked at the British Open last month: If he went on to win the tournament, would that be the greatest golf achievement ever? Watson didn't hesitate. The greatest golf achievement, Tiger Woods winning the 2000 U.S. Open by 15 shots.

But we didn't appreciate that then. We took Tiger Woods for granted. We were so sure he was going to win this PGA that a U.K. bookmaker,it mistakenly paid out $2.1 million to Tiger-backers before he'd even teed off Saturday.

Since beating Golf Star Tiger Woods in 2002, Rich Beem says game has improved

Rich Beem beat Tiger Woods by one shot to win the 2002 PGA Championship at Hazeltine. He hasn't won since, even though he thinks his game has improved.

Tiger Woods

Honestly, I think it's gotten better over the last seven years, "Results may not reflect that fact, but I believe that my game has gotten a lot better. I think that I'm swinging the golf club a lot better than I ever have.

Beem, who will be paired with Woods and defending champ Padraig Harrington the first two days, says he didn't handle the major well.

Obviously back in 2002 after this championship, (it) really changed my life, "And it was fast and furious. To be honest with you, I wasn't prepared for it.

British Open champ Stewart Cink remains, of course, rather anonymous.his family and some friends were at Glacier National Park in Montana after the Open when they picked up a hitchhiker. They passed a little golf course "Man, can you believe what happened to Tom Watson?

Tiger Woods photo

"All the friends in the van ... their radar perked up and they turned to him and We kind of liked that because Stewart Cink is one of our best friends and he's in the Suburban right back there,'" Cink related. "And 'Yeah, right, let's stop and I'll get his autograph.' They dropped him off, and he still doesn't know to this point."

Despite Golf star Woods's Charge, Harrington Maintains Lead

Padraig Harrington kept pouring in birdies as he tried to separate himself from everyone else at the Bridgestone Invitational. He arrived at the 18th green with a three-shot lead, happy with his day.

Then he glanced at the leader board for the first time Saturday. Suddenly, that lead felt a little smaller.

Tiger Woods photo

His closest challenger was Tiger Woods, the world's No. 1 player and close to unbeatable at Firestone.

Tiger Woods with girlfriend

He was surprised, yeah. he didn't know he was up there, who made four birdies on the back nine for a 3-under-par 67. "Okay, he's in second place. There he is, 7 under par. There you go, three-shot lead.

Tiger Woods medal

Is that enough? Probably not. I was trying to put as much room between me and the field. But at the end of the day, there's probably never enough room between you and Tiger.

Tiger Woods

he know,he has to play well tomorrow if I'm going to win.

he's gotten flags signed by the California-based company before and still has an account with them.

Tiger Woods

More than anything I would rather have those six flags back (and) signed, "I'm in business to sell this kind of stuff, and I don't have it

Tiger Woods smile

He's suing the company for $40,000, claiming gross negligence was involved in losing his product, according to his Howell-based attorney Philip D. Tobolsky.

Golf Star Tiger Woods' 65 gives him Buick Open lead

Tiger Woods drove on adjacent fairways twice on the back nine, hit a cup of beer in a spectator's hand, got rattled by a bug and was relegated to shaping some shots around trees and under branches.

Tiger Woods

He still managed to shoot a 7-under 65 on Saturday in the third round of the Buick Open, giving him a 17-under 199 total and a one-stroke lead when Michael Letzig (68) double bogeyed the last hole.

Tiger Woods photo

The whole idea of the game is put the ball in the hole, and I did that, "But as far as controlling my ball, I didn't do that.

Woods opened his first tournament since missing the cut at the British Open with a 71 after what he said was probably his worst putting day.

Tiger Woods smile

When he was eight shots behind first-round leader Steve Lowery, Woods said he couldn't make up ground in one day at Warwick Hills.

It took him two.
Woods roared back into contention with a 9-under 63 in the second round and took the lead with his 65 Saturday.
"Eight back, at a U.S. Open, you can make that up in one round, "You can't make it up around here."
He moved into a tie for the lead with Letzig at 17 under with a 33-foot birdie putt at No.
